Perth Glory - Western Sydney Wanderers Betting Preview: Expect a goal drought in Western Australia

These two sides' games have produced fewer goals than any other team in the A-League so far this season, so Al Hain-Cole is confident of a low-scoring encounter at the NIB Stadium
A-League new boys Western Sydney Wanderers make the long trip to Western Australia on Thursday to face last year’s Grand Final runners-up Perth Glory, who sit just below them in fifth place in the table.

It has been a tough few weeks for Glory, who were recently stripped of their chance to play in next season’s Asian Champions League.

However, Ian Ferguson’s men have flourished under adversity, putting together back-to-back wins for the first time this season, and they are now 9/10 (1.90) favourites with Bet365 to make it three on the spin with victory in this match.

Tony Popovic’s men will be high on confidence themselves after a three-match winning streak of their own, and will fancy their chances after previously becoming the only away side so far this term to pick up all three points at the NIB Stadium.

The Wanderers are available at 3/1 (4.00) odds to reproduce November’s 1-0 winning performance and emerge victorious once again.

Only three of these sides’ 24 league fixtures have resulted in draws this season, but you can get odds of 5/2 (3.50) on them cancelling each other out here.

Western Sydney’s 6-1 thrashing of second-placed Adelaide United last Friday was all the more surprising considering the lack of goals that their previous matches have produced so far this year.

That game was only the third time in 12 fixtures that over two goals had been seen at a Wanderers match, and considering Perth have only conceded four goals in six at home, we are unlikely to see another similar score-line in this one.

A bet on under 2.5 goals to be scored would have paid out in 18 of this pair’s combined 24 games this season, so it is certainly not to be missed at odds of 7/10 (1.70) when they meet.

In fact, a single goal has been scored in exactly half of each of these teams’ league games this season, so it seems likely that we will see no more than one when the two of them come up against each other.

With this in mind, odds of 2/1 (3.00) seem rather inviting on under 1.5 goals being scored here, and could well be worth a flutter at that price.
