Newcastle United - Manchester City Betting Preview: City can bounce back from derby disappointment

Newcastle United - Manchester City Betting Preview: City can bounce back from derby disappointment

Roberto Mancini's men suffered defeat to city-rivals Manchester United last week but Willie Duncan is expecting them to claim victory when they face Alan Pardew's Magpies

Manchester City will aim to put the bitter disappointment of defeat in last weekend’s derby clash with United behind them when they make the trip to St James’ Park to take on Alan Pardew’s out-of-sorts Newcastle United side on Saturday afternoon.

Roberto Mancini’s men looked set to take a point from last weekend’s clash with their city-rivals, having fought back from 2-0 down, but were left stunned by Robin van Persie’s late winner.

Despite that disappointment, the Citizens are warm favourites at 4/6 (1.67) with Bet365 to pick up all three points this weekend. Which, although not the biggest price, looks a solid start to the weekend's punting.

That City are such strong favourites for this clash is somewhat unsurprising given Newcastle United’s recent poor form.

It is worth noting that the Magpies have managed just one win in their last 10 matches – a 3-0 home win over Wigan earlier this month – and are available at 9/2 (5.50) with Bet365 to end that alarming sequence of results with victory over the defending Premier League champions. The same firm go 11/4 (3.75) that the match ends in a draw.

Despite Newcastle’s indifferent form, Senegalese striker Demba Ba has been scoring regularly for the Magpies, notching an impressive 10 goals in all competitions this season, and he can be backed at a chunky 8/1 (9.0) with Bet365 to bag the opening goal this weekend while the same firm offer a tempting 9/4 (3.25) to at any time in the match.

For City, Carlos Tevez was excluded from Roberto Mancini’s starting line-up for the derby last weekend but, following an impressive cameo from the substitute’s bench, the Argentinian striker is likely to start in this match.

Bet365 are offering 4/1 (5.0) on the former West Ham United striker to open the scoring which looks worthy of a smaller stake, while there's also a 21/20 (2.05) quote from the same firm for Tevez to score at any time.

Roberto Mancini’s side are unbeaten in seven Premier League away matches thus far this term, winning three and drawing four and they can be trusted at 4/6 (1.67) with Bet365 to extend that run with victory over the Magpies on Saturday.

The 4/1 (5.0) quote for Carlos Tevez to break the deadlock is also good value and should be snapped up by punters in search of a bigger price to put their money on.
