AC Milan - Zenit St Petersburg Betting Preview: Back the goals to flow when an unfamiliar home side take to the field

With the Rossoneri already through in second place, Massimo Allegri is expected to field a reserve team. Al Hain-Cole believes the visitors' fearsome front line to take advantage
After a difficult start to the season, AC Milan’s fortunes have been transformed in recent weeks thanks to a series of uplifting results, including a victory against Juventus and a win away at Anderlecht that secured their place in the last 16 of the Champions League.

The Rossoneri will therefore go into Tuesday’s game against Zenit St Petersburg in good spirits, and will be hoping to collect all three points in order to maintain momentum, despite already being guaranteed second place in Group C.

Massimo Allegri’s men have won their last three successive games in all competitions, but with several players sure to be rested, they are only slight favourites at 13/8 (2.63) with William Hill to come out on top.

Zenit need a win in order to wrap up third spot and a place in the Europa League, but have not won any of their last eight European away games, so are outsiders at 9/5 (2.80) to clinch a victory at San Siro.

Milan have drawn their last three Champions League games on home soil, meaning another stalemate could well be on the cards in this encounter, and is available at odds of 21/10 (3.10).

The omission of some key players from Allegri’s line-up makes this a slightly tricky game to predict, but those coming into the side will undoubtedly be keen to impress their boss, and should play with a certain freedom considering there is nothing for them to lose.

The visitors, on the other hand, are desperate for victory, and their dangerous strike force of Hulk, Aleksandr Kerzhakov and Danny will surely cause problems for a makeshift back line.

A repeat of the entertaining 3-2 scoreline from the previous tie in St Petersburg is by no means out of the question, and odds of 7/10 (1.70) on both teams to score seem very tempting considering this bet would have paid out in eight of these sides’ last 10 matches.

Midfielder Roman Shirokov was on the scoresheet when these teams last met back in October, and his habit of grabbing important goals makes him a likely candidate to hit the back of the net again this time out.

The Russian international got the final goal in Friday’s league win over Spartak Moscow, and offers excellent value at 10/3 (4.33) to score anytime this evening.
