Real Sociedad - Rayo Vallecano Betting Preview: Why over 2.5 goals is the bet for Monday night's clash
Nov 19, 2012 5:31:00 PM
After two winners in two games over the weekend, our Spanish expert Phil Kitromilides believes Rayo's leaky defence will lead to at least three goals being scored this evening
After back-to-back victories over Malaga and Celta Vigo respectively, Rayo Vallecano travel to Real Sociedad finding themselves in a comfortable position in the league. That Rayo are in tenth place in the table is unlikely, not merely because of their precarious financial position and tiny squad, but primarily because of their seeming inability to defend with any semblance of organisation.
Their trip to San Sebastian follows a run of eight league matches without a clean sheet during which time they have conceded an eye-watering 24 goals. The price then of 5/6 (1.83) offered by William Hill for Real Sociedad, who are traditionally strong at home, to win looks tempting.
Yet, La Real are fast becoming one of the hardest teams in La Liga to understand and therefore invest in.
Their early season strength at home has been offset by two consecutive defeats, the second of which against a struggling Espanyol side being particularly hard to fathom.
Therefore, backing a Rayo side at 7/2 (4.50) who won impressively at Malaga in their last away game starts to look like not such a bad bet.
However, with both these sides in erratic form, it is best to steer clear of backing either in the outright marketand instead invest in goals to be scored.
Over 2.5 goals has pretty comfortably paid out in each of Rayo's last six matches, and with their defence looking wobblier than a toddler on a tricycle, the price of 67/100 (1.67) looks just about big enough to invest in.
For a value bet, try backing over 4.5 goals to be scored in the game at 9/2 (5.50).
While this may not sound like a fixture that could see five goals or more, this bet has paid out in a staggering five of Rayo's last eight matches. And, with La Real boasting talented forwards such as Carlos Vela and Antoine Griezmann, there is every chance this could be another high-scoring encounter.
