Neil Lennon will be eager to see the Scottish Premier League leaders pick up all three points from a testing trip to Tannadice to face Dundee United on Sunday afternoon.
The Hoops face a crunch Champions League encounter with Barcelona in Glasgow on Wednesday but the Northern Irishman will demand that his players first focus on the challenge posed by Peter Houston’s Terrors.
William Hill make the Hoops warm favourites at 4/7 (1.57) to defeat Dundee United, with the hosts rated as a 9/2 (5.50) chance with the same firm. William Hill offer 14/5 (3.80) that both sides are forced to settle for a share of the spoils on Sunday.
William Hill also provide a couple of 'headline offers' involving a pair of players who are expected to be among the main protagonists in this weekend’s clash.
Dundee United striker Jon Daly scored 19 goals for the Terrors last term and William Hill go 11/1 (12.0) that he scores at any time in a United victory.
It should be noted, though, that Daly was deployed as a central defender in his side’s penalty shootout defeat to Heart of Midlothian in the League Cup on Wednesday and Houston may well use the Irishman in that role again.
With that in mind, far greater value may come by backing the in-form Kris Commons to net at any time in a Celtic win at 5/2 (3.50) with William Hill.
Commons scored his first goals of the season by grabbing a hat-trick in the midweek trouncing of St Johnstone and, should the Scotland midfielder find his scoring touch again at the weekend, the 5/2 (3.50) quote for the former Derby County man to net at any time in a Celtic victory looks to represent outstanding value.
Sunday’s match appears to be coming at the wrong time for the Terrors. They have won just two of their last nine fixtures in all competitions and managed a paltry return of just five goals in that period.
It should also be noted that United were subjected to a gruelling 120 minute battle in the League Cup on Wednesday night before succumbing on penalties – a sharp contrast to Celtic’s cruise to the semi-final stage 24 hours earlier.
William Hill’s 13/8 (2.63) quote for Celtic to win to nil is a tempting price here but the best bet is for Neil Lennon’s side to take advantage of any tiredness in the Dundee United ranks by winning the second half at a juicy 17/20 (1.85) with William Hill.
