The return of Steven Fletcher to the Scotland squad not only boosts their chances in World Cup qualifying but it creates an interesting market for top goalscorer betting.Kenny Miller netted the Scots' only goal in their opening two matches – both drawn – and as a result he is joint-favourite to top the charts at the end of the campaign.
Miller can be backed at 5/2 (3.50) with William Hill to be Scotland top scorer in World Cup qualifying. If it’s a dead heat then the money is paid out on half the stake.
But Miller is surely a man whose career is on the slide. The 32-year-old joined Vancouver Whitecaps earlier this year and looks to be a fading force – whether he is even in the squad in a year’s time must be up for debate.
That’s because youngsters such as Jordan Rhodes are pushing hard for a chance.
The 22-year-old scored a remarkable 40 goals for Huddersfield last season and then netted on full debut for Scotland against Australia.
Rhodes’ £8million move to Blackburn has further raised his profile and he can expect opportunities in this World Cup qualifying campaign.

But the Oldham-born forward has been ruled out of the trips to Wales and Belgium over the next week so is already playing catch-up. So the pick of the bets must be the returning Fletcher.
Five goals in his first four Premier League games of the season for new club Sunderland indicate that this is a man who is fit and firing.
This may be a difficult qualifying group but Fletcher has eight games in which to turn around a one-goal deficit to Miller.
With Rhodes out and no other likely candidates, backing the 25-year-old looks the smart move. Fletcher is 5/2 (3.50) joint-favourite with William Hill to be Scotland’s top goalscorer in Group A.
