JD explains why Russia is the place to be when backing goals as well as explaining why he's going for a high scoring game at Goodison Park and more success for Bayern Munich

We had a good week which ended in profit and we are on course to do the same this week. Tuesday was particularly kind to us with a team goals combination delivering for us at evens (2.0) and Sunderland winning at MK Dons despite being reduced to 10 men.

Fishing for goals

Many bettors like the approach of backing over/under goals in matches. It means you are entirely neutral on who wins the match as you just want the goals, or lack of, required to win your bet. If you are applying that sort of strategy, it is important to go where the goals are.

Many bettors focus on the leagues they are most familiar with but it makes sense to bet in leagues that give you a higher statistical chance of winning.

For example, if you are a backer of over 2.5 goals, the Russian Premier League is the place to be at the moment. 63.9 per cent of its matches so far have gone over 2.5 goals.

It is significantly higher than the English Premier League where only 51% of its matches so far have gone over 2.5 goals. Serie A is even lower with  48.8% of its matches going over 2.5 goals. It is early in the season but you will find these trends will not deviate much as the campaign continues.

Weekend tips

Looking ahead to the weekend, Everton are a very short price at 2/5 (1.40) in places, as they take on Southampton at home.

The Saints secured a morale-boosting victory last weekend and they have found the net in both of their away matches so far this season. I like the 10/11 (1.91) with William Hill about both teams scoring at Goodison Park.

William Hill also offer a very interesting market called 'Race to 2 goals'.  You simply back a team to score two goals first in a match. It can often give you a better return than placing a bet for that team to win. 

Bayern Munich have been in wonderful early season form and are a 4/6 (1.67) shot away to Werder Bremen. You can squeeze a better return by backing them in the 'race to 2 goals' market at 3/4 (1.75).
