Diary of a Punter: Goals to flow between Fulham and Manchester City

Diary of a Punter: Goals to flow between Fulham and Manchester City

Latest Notts County - Bury Betting Preview: Expect goals to be far and few between at Meadow Lane Previous

With Manchester Untied's win over Liverpool ensuring a healthy profit for the week, Jim Knight is feeling confident and backing plenty of goals at Craven Cottage

Last week was bitter-sweet. Fleetwood Town failing to beat Bristol Rovers provided the bitter on Saturday and on Sunday Manchester United - courtesy of a Mark Halsey assist - provided the sweet, meaning the profit column for the season receives a bit of a boost.

The free £20 bet was won by Tom Akehurst who correctly tipped up Wolves to beat struggling Peterborough in the Championship at a shade over evens.

It just goes to show you do not have to predict a big price winner, so be sure to get your weekend tip into betting@goal.com before noon on Saturday. Include the price and "Power20" in the subject to make sure your entry is counted.

One of my selections this week is a Both Teams to Score double, this is a very popular bet with punters and when included in a multiple can provide great entertainment and solid profit too. For the bet to win you need both teams to score in the match at least once and with a bit of research it's often easy to see which teams score goals but also struggle to keep clean sheets.

Both Teams to Score: Fulham v Manchester City

Fulham have made a good start to the Premier League season and importantly for this bet, have scored in every one of their last seven competitive games.

A combined eight goals against Norwich and West Brom will have the Craven Cottage crowd full of confidence for Saturday's clash against Manchester City.

Roberto Mancini's men have had their problems on the road in recent weeks and months and are yet to win away in any of their three games on the road but importantly for this bet, they have scored in all of them.

In fact, their last six Premier League games away from Etihad Stadium have seen City score at least once. I could not back the champions at odds-on for this game but both teams to score looks a decent bet at 4/6 (1.67).

Both Teams to Score: Cardiff v Blackpool

The above selection is going to be doubled with both teams to score in Cardiff's clash with Blackpool. The Championship is a notoriously difficult league to bet on due to a lot of the sides being similar in ability, so bets like this one can be the best way to approach things.

Cardiff's games have been full of goals this season, they have seen 20 goals in their last five matches, keeping only one clean sheet against Millwall. Blackpool likewise have been involved in some high scoring clashes recently, with 18 goals in their last five league games.

Ian Holloway will expect his players to bounce back after defeat against Huddersfield on Monday night, but the Bluebirds goal scoring threat should mean we see goals at both ends. Doubling the selections returns 17/10 (2.71) with Paddy Power, so £15 of the betting bankroll is being used to back that one.

Tranmere to beat Brentford

Tranmere have been somewhat of a surprise package in League One this season. Ronnie Moore's side currently sit proudly atop the table with 20 points from their eight games so far.

A big part of that success is their ability to take maximum points from games at Prenton Park. Their four games at home have seen four wins, 12 goals scored and just one conceded.

The visit of Brentford will be a tough test for the league leaders, but Uwe Rosler's men have misfired on the road for some time now.

They have not won an away game since the final game of last season when they beat relegated Chesterfield 3-2. Scoring four goals in five league games on the road this term has not helped and Tranmere look a good bet this weekend, Paddy Power offer 10/11 (1.91) about a home win and another £5 goes on that.
