Finland - France Betting Preview: Back Deschamps' side for a low scoring victory in Helsinki
The 43-year-old takes charge of Les Bleus for the first time in a competitive fixture as his side travel to face Mixu Paatelainen's side and Willie Duncan is backing the visitorsAfter a disappointing Euro 2012 campaign, France begin their quest for glory at World Cup 2014 when they make the trip to Helsinki to face Finland on Friday night, in Didier Deschamps’ first competitive game in charge.
Deschamps' new charges were forced to settle for a dour goalless draw with Uruguay in a friendly last month but PanBet make Les Bleus warm favourites at 3/5 (1.60) to get their World Cup campaign off to a winning start here.
The Finns, now under the stewardship of Mixu Paatelainen, face a stiff task in their aim to qualify for the World Cup in Brazil having been grouped alongside Spain as well as France, but will hope to have a say on which sides succeed on the road to Rio.
Paatelainen’s men are chalked up at a chunky 28/5 (6.60) with PanBet to stun the French on Friday. The same firm go 3/1 (4.0) that both sides open their campaign with a point apiece.
France are expected to dominate but Deschamps' men have found goals difficult to come by in recent matches.
Indeed, Les Bleus have failed to score in any of their last three matches and as a result the 81/100 (1.81) quote from Panbet for fewer than three goals being scored looks to be the best bet here.
A 1-0 win for the 1998 world champions is available at 27/5 (6.40) with PanBet while a 2-0 win for the French can be backed at 59/10 (6.90).
It must be remembered that France went on a 23-match unbeaten run before succumbing to Sweden in their final group game at Euro 2012 and, should the French find that kind of form, the 36/25 (2.44) for France to lead at both half-time and full-time is worthy of consideration against a Finland side that mustered just three victories in a Euro 2012 qualifying group which included San Marino.
Finland will be determined to show that they are not pushovers but the French should be too strong here and Didier Deschamps should see his side secure their first win of his tenure as national boss.
