Chelsea - Newcastle Betting Preview: Why both teams should score at Stamford Bridge
With two confident, attacking outfits meeting in west London, Phil Kitromilides does not believe a clean sheet will be kept by either side and has a 9/2 value bet for this game
After both teams got off to winning starts last weekend, Saturday's late game in the Premier League promises to be an entertaining affair as Newcastle travel to Chelsea.Indeed, the Blues have two wins under their belts thanks to their victory over Reading in midweek, although they needed to come from behind to defeat the newly-promoted side at Stamford Bridge.
This fixture has a fairly mixed recent history with the last seven meetings in league and cup producing two wins for Chelsea, two wins for Newcastle and three draws.
The corresponding encounter last season saw Papiss Cisse score two remarkable goals as the Magpies earned a 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge and Paddy Power price them at a tempting 11/2 (6.50) to win again. Chelsea meanwhile are offered at 8/15 (1.53), while the draw can be backed at 3/1 (4.00).
One bet, however, stands out beyond all others for this match, and that is for both teams to score, which is available at 4/6 (1.67). Newcastle have scored in each of their last three visits to Stamford Bridge, amassing eight goals in the process.
Chelsea, for their part, have scored in five of their last six meetings with the Magpies, and have started the season in excellent attacking form.
Goals look extremely likely at both ends, with Chelsea conceding four times in the three games they have played so far, and with Newcastle keeping only one clean in their last five games and returning from a Europa League game on Thursday evening.
Those punters looking for higher odds may well be interested in backing Frank Lampard to continue his excellent scoring start to the season. He is offered at 15/8 (2.88) to score at any time and 9/2 (5.50) to open the scoring as he did in the Blues' last match. A danger from range as well as the man on penalty duty, he is a tempting 9/2 (5.50) shot to score first.
