Blackburn - Hull Betting Preview: Tigers can heap yet more pressure on Kean
While Rovers suffered a late equaliser on the opening weekend, Steve Bruce's side grabbed a late winner. Adam Bate thinks the visitors have the momentum going into this one
Despite their status among the favourites for the Championship title, there remains the nagging feeling that this has the potential to be a disastrous season for Blackburn. It would be wrong to say the tensions are behind the scenes – the divisions at the club are open for all to see. And with supporters still baying for blood, the first home game of the season against Hull looks fraught with difficulty.
And yet, there is quality in the side from Scott Dann at the back through to Danny Murphy and David Dunn in the centre and Portugal international Nuno Gomes up front.
For that reason, Blackburn are 91/100 (1.91) favourites to win here with Panbet.Visitors Hull began their Championship campaign under new boss Steve Bruce with a home win over Brighton at the KC Stadium.
A late winner from substitute Jay Simpson was enough to separate the teams and Bruce will have been encouraged by how solid the Tigers looked.
Hull failed to keep a clean sheet in the final 10 games of last season but with experienced defender Abdoulaye Faye having arrived from West Ham, the new coach has taken steps to address this.
Hull are 18/5 (4.6) with Panbet to make it two wins from two. The draw is available at 5/2 (3.5).
Perhaps given that Bruce appears to have shored things up defensively, it may be tempting to back Hull in the double chance market.
They wrapped up pre-season with a goalless draw against Premier League side Norwich City and the focus could be on not getting beaten at Ewood Park. Hull are 97/100 (1.97) to avoid defeat here.In the same vein, Hull developed a reputation for being an ‘unders’ team under Nick Barmby and early indications are that this should continue under Bruce.
Under 2.5 goals paid out 12 times out of 13 over the winter in Hull’s games as well as in their first two competitive games this season if you include their Capital One Cup tie.
It is available at 41/50 (1.82) with Panbet and under 2.5 goals is the pick of the bets here.
For the value bet pick, it may be worth gambling that Gomes will take time to adapt to the Championship and, if Hull can close down Murphy, the home side could struggle for goals in the absence of the injured Leon Best.
Hull are well capable of nicking a goal and holding on for the win. The 1-0 away win is available at 10/1 (11.0) with Panbet and is a distinct possibility if Blackburn fail to score early and tensions rise at Ewood Park.
