The Netherlands international looks set to move to Old Trafford and bookmakers now make Sir Alex Ferguson's men 2/1 to win the title but Manchester City are still favouritesBookmakers Paddy Power have cut Robin Van Persie's odds to finish as top Premier League goalscorer to 8/1 (9.0) after Arsenal and Manchester United announced they had agreed a fee for the 29-year-old who finished with the Golden Boot award last season.
It was one of the long-running transfer sagas of the summer, but the striker looks set to swap Emirates Stadium for Old Trafford ahead of the first game of the campaign and Manchester United have been trimmed to 2/1 (3.0) for the Premier League title. Meanwhile rivals Manchester City are still favourites at 13/10 (2.30), a slight move from 5/4 (2.25) before the announcement was made.
Paddy Power make Lukas Podolksi - one of the men widely tipped to replace Van Persie should he move on - a 9/4 (3.25) chance to score 15 or more Premier League goals in his first season for Arsenal, while fellow new signing Olivier Giroud is 15/8 (2.62) to achieve the same milestone.
Given Podolski's impressive scoring record at international level for Germany, the 9/4 (3.25) on offer for him to net 15 or more could prove great value, although it remains to be seen if he can adapt to the Premier League after his summer move from FC Koln. This price is made more attractive by Arsene Wenger's admission that he felt he didn't need to spend further to replace Van Persie.
It isn't all doom and gloom for the Gunners ,though, Paddy Power still go 8/15 (1.53) for them to finish in the top four, and 1/2 (1.5) to finish above north London rivals Tottenham in the Premier League table. Arsene Wenger's side are also 5/2 (3.50) to win a domestic trophy this season and 12/1 (13.0) to win the Premier League title.
