Brazil - Honduras Betting Preview: Expect the favourites to progress at St James' Park
Aug 3, 2012 10:00:00 AM
Mano Menezes' side are now heavy favourites to win Olympic gold, and Adam Bate does not see La Bicolor Olimpica stopping their run on Saturday
The exit of pre-tournament hopefuls Spain and Uruguay has left Brazil in a strong position to claim Olympic gold, and their performances in the group stage only served to back up their credentials.Three goals in each of their three games indicate that the Selecao are in no mood to go easy on their opponents as they search for that elusive Olympic title.
Honduras provide the opposition for this quarter-final at St James’ Park, but even they will surely be aware that if Mano Menezes' men can perform, there is little they can to do stop them. Brazil are heavy favourites at 2/9 (1.22) to win with Panbet.
Honduras will be pleased to reach this stage after emerging from Group D ahead of the much-fancied Spaniards. They rode their luck in beating La Roja but are clearly comfortable in the underdog role, and the fact that the Central Americans went unbeaten throughout the group suggests they will stick to their task here.
Honduras are 17/1 (18.0) to cause a major upset in Newcastle on Saturday. The draw is available at 28/5 (6.6) with Panbet.
For those who do see Honduras getting something from this one, the bet of choice could be the double chance.
After all, with clean sheets against Spain and Japan, making life difficult for Brazil is a more than plausible objective. Honduras to deny Neymar et al victory in 90 minutes is at 37/10 (4.7).But the pick of the bets in this one is to back Brazil to show their quality early.
They scored an amazing six goals inside the first 30 minutes in their three group games – to put that into context, no other team managed more than two.
As such, it is well worth taking the price of 4/7 (1.57) with Panbet for Brazil to lead at half-time.
In terms of a value bet, Leandro Damiao has scored in both of the games in which he has featured and has been on the receiving end of some quality service.
As a result, the odds-against price of 6/5 (2.2) with Panbet for Damiao to score at anytime in the quarter-final represents good value.
