Bet of the Day: Back a home win for New York Red Bulls against Seattle Sounders if Henry plays

New York will look to build on their unbeaten record for the visit of the Sounders to Red Bull Arena but their form has dipped. Adam Bate thinks goals are on the cards in this one
The quirks of the fixture list mean the visit of Seattle Sounders is only New York Red Bulls’ eighth home game of the season, despite having played 11 games on the road.That leaves the Red Bulls in a slightly false position as they are in fact unbeaten at home with all five of their defeats coming on their travels.
New York will expect to pick up more points here because while Seattle may be formidable in front of their own vociferous support, with six home wins, they are a different proposition away from Washington with just two wins in nine games. The Red Bulls can be backed at 10/11 (1.91) with William Hill.
What will give the Sounders hope is that this is not the Red Bulls team of the spring.Back then, they won eight games from 10 with Thierry Henry to the fore – hitting seven goals in three games.
But the Arsenal legend has hardly featured since and missed last week’s game in New England.
With Rafael Marquez also a doubt after missing that game, this could be the time for Seattle to take advantage
The Sounders can be backed at 11/4 (3.75) with William Hill.
While there might be value in going for Seattle, they are a hard team to back with any confidence after going nine games without a win until their triumph over Colorado last time out. The draw might be a good pick at 9/4 (3.25) with William Hill.
The records of these two teams suggest we can expect goals in this one. Both the Red Bulls and the Sounders are scoring and conceding an average of at least a goal a game.You can tip there to be over 2.5 goals at evens (2.0) with William Hill, but the best goals bet is to back both teams to score here.
New York have failed to score just twice this season, while Seattle have been unable to find the net in just five of their games. Backing both teams to score at 8/11 (1.73) with William Hill is the best bet in this one.
For the Value Bet, bear in mind that Henry usually sits out games on synthetic surfaces so his omission against New England could be a false alarm. If Henry is fit then the price on a Red Bulls win starts to look very appealing.
