Friday's Bet of the Day: Back under 2.5 goals when Everton host Fulham

Goals have been few and far between for the Toffees and Phil Kitromilides is predicting another tight game against Fulham and also has a 40/1 value bet

With both these sides almost certain to be stuck in the limbo of mid-table obscurity come the end of the season, a good cup run could be the only chance for a taste of glory for their respective supporters this season.

The hosts are priced at Even money (2.0) for the victory while Fulham are 12/5 (3.40) outsiders, both with Sportingbet.

Everton's home form this season has been disappointing with the Toffees losing five times already at Goodison Park in the league. Fulham meantime have been wildly unpredictable, losing 3-1 at Blackburn a couple of weeks ago, only to bounce back last Saturday with a 5-2 destruction of Newcastle at home.

But the Cottagers have generally been poor away from home (as they have been in recent history) having managed a solitary win away from Craven Cottage.

With neither side in a particularly rich vein of form, and given the fact that Everton have managed just 11 goals in 11 home games, while Fulham have scored just seven on the road, a bet on under 2.5 goals looks the way forward.

Sportingbet offer odds of 13/20 (1.65) on their being less than 2.5 goals and although it is not the biggest price in the world it seems a sound investment. Goodison Park has seen eight matches this season with two goals or less, while 10 out of Fulham's 11 away games have had less than 2.5 goals.

In terms of imagination and returns it is not the most creative bet, but it the statistics show under 2.5 goals to be a solid choice and at a price that still offers a modest return on the investment.

Meantime, for a long shot, then it would be wise to consider the halftime/fulltime market. In two of their last three league games, Fulham have come from behind at half-time to win the match. A repeat would of course require more than 2.5 goals scored in the match, but backing Everton/Fulham which is available at a whopping 40/1 (41.00) could provide a great return from a modest stake and offers some great value.

Bet of the day: Under 2.5 goals at 13/20 (1.65) with Sportingbet

Value bet: Everton HT/Fulham FT at 40/1 (41.00) with Sportingbet
