thumbnail Hello,

Industry expert Pete Nordsted is back to analyse the next round of Premier League fixtures and has identified some very strong statistical trends

Last weekend we were let down by Manchester United scoring an early goal in their 5-0 thrashing of Wigan.

In that match they continued to keep up a strong trend which I feel may carry on when Steve Kean brings his Blackburn side to Old Trafford on Saturday. This season the Old Trafford faithful have certainly been treated to more action in the second half, as in their opening nine home games the second period has been the highest scoring in seven.

When we see how Sir Alex Ferguson's charges have performed when facing teams of Blackburn's standard then the second half has seen the most goals in seven of their last 10 at home. Blackburn also show similar tendencies especially when facing sides of United's stature away from Ewood Park. The second half has seen the most goals in five of their last eight away matches.

The second half to be the highest scoring can be backed at 11/10 (2.10) with Stan James and given the stats above this offers some excellent value.

Another interesting looking proposition this weekend is the match at the Reebok Stadium between two struggling sides Bolton and Wolves and here we may see the opposite to the Manchester United game.

This is an encounter where both sides will have earmarked as a potential three points against a fellow struggler and both teams could be looking to win the game from the off. Also the stats point to early goals being a distinct possibility.

There have been two or more goals in the first half in eight of Bolton's last 14 home games and in the case of Wolves there has been two or more goals scored in an amazing 10 of their last 13 away games including their last four. The first half to contain over 1.5 goals can be backed at a tempting looking 13/8 (2.62) with Stan James and this again looks to offer some solid value given the stats above.
