Barcelona
Title Odds: 1.80

Favourites, but not by much, with the bookies the holders have added David Villa to their ranks of stars. With or without Zlatan Ibrahimovic Barca remain the team to beat and with a settled side and coach have a distinct advantage over Real Madrid when it comes to stability. The possible addition of Javier Mascherano will make them even tougher to beat. Only question is whether they take their eye off the ball momentarily to focus on the Champions League.

Why Barcelona will win La Liga

Established team and manager which know each other inside out. David Villa is a guaranteed goalscorer and they have the psychological edge over Real Madrid having beaten them home and away last season.

Why Barcelona won't win La Liga

No La Liga club has won three in a row since Barca's dream team of the 90s plus Jose Mourinho knows how to unsettle Barcelona on and off the pitch.

Real Madrid
Title Odds: 2.10

Los Blancos' galactico this summer has been the addition of coach Jose Mourinho. The new man at the Bernabeu has had plenty of money to spend but he will do well to better Manuel Pellegrini's haul of 96 points. Winning the title wasn't enough to keep Fabio Capello and Bernd Schuster in a job so the priority in the Spanish capital must be the Champions League. Being eliminated at the first knock out stage for six years running isn't good enough. The league may need to take a backseat to European ambitions. Just don't tell the Special One that!

Why Real Madrid will win La Liga

Porto, Chelsea and Inter Milan all won the title in Mourinho's first full season in charge. He knows how to win and more crucially knows how to beat Barcelona.

Why Real Madrid won't win La Liga

Weight of expectation after another summer of investment. For all the money and hype Barcelona remain the better team.

The Rest
Long gone are the days when Deportivo La Coruna, Real Sociedad and Valencia were competing for La Liga. For the past six seasons the top two have been occupied almost exclusively by the Barca/Madrid duopoly leading to comparisons with the Scottish Premier League.

La Liga Specials

We've already established that the title is heading for Madrid or Barcelona so what else to look out for? How about Atletico Madrid to finish in the top four. The Europa League winners have a savvy manager in Quique Sanchez Flores and have held onto top players Diego Forlan and Kun Aguero. Atletico are a team on the rise.

* Atletico Madrid to finish in top four - 1.73

David Villa is the hot favourite to win the Pichichi at 5.0 ahead of Leo Mesi at 6.0, Cristiano Ronaldo 7.50 and Gonzalo Higuain on 8.50. A decent outside bet is Diego Forlan who has won the crown twice before.

* Diego Forlan to be La Liga top goalscorer - 11.0

Jose Mourinho hasn't lost a home league match since 2002. Real Madrid only lost at the Bernabeu once last season in the title decider against Barcelona.

* Real Madrid to go La Liga season unbeaten at home - 8.0

Sevilla are best priced to win the non Barca/Madrid league at 3.20 followed by Atletico Madrid on 3.50, Valencia 3.50 and Villarreal on 6.0.
