Betting Markets Thrown Into Chaos As Martin Jol Stretches Out To Evens To Take Fulham Job
Dutchman was odds on favourite yesterday but his u-turn has forced the bookies to have a rethink...

Martin Jol's decision to keep Fulham waiting on the vacant manager's position has thrown the betting markets into chaos.
The former Tottenham Hotspur gaffer was trading as low as 1.10 (1/10) yesterday when a deal to succeed Roy Hodgson at Craven Cottage looked likely. Jol appears to have had a change of heart having been given assurances by his current club Ajax about transfer funds so his current odds are a tasty evens (2.0).
"They (Fulham) were interested but in principle I will stay at Ajax," Jol was quoted in De Telegraaf. In yet another twist it's understood that Jol has now told his present club that he wants out.

Anyone who backed Jol yesterday at dangerously low odds will be forced to sweat it out as the Dutchman plays the waiting game.
Former favourite Sven Goran Eriksson has had his odds slashed from 20/1 (21.0) to 3/1 (4.0) overnight. The Swede, who has hinted he may remain with the Ivory Coast, was in talks with the Londoners until a possible deal fell through over wage demands.

Ottmar Hitzfeld remains in contention with the bookies at 14/1 (15.0) but the veteran German coach is planning to honour his contract with Switzerland and retire from the game in 2012.
A largely unknown figure who is attracting interest from punters is Englishman Stuart Baxter at 11/1 (12.0). Finland's current boss is similar to former boss Roy Hodgson having spent most of his career coaching away from his native country and is highly regarded on the continent.
Goal.com's betting & odds expert David Mole says punters should get in when the prices are decent.
"Managerial markets can see some of the largest swings in any betting markets as rumours drive down prices and agents release statements aimed soley at creating a bidding war for their client. The only thing the punter can do is hold their nerve and back their instinct.
"If you can see Martin Jol tracksuited up and stood on the sidelines at Craven Cottage next year then back him, sit back and enjoy the ride. My last tip would be to try and back candidates when their price is high, anyone backing Jol recently at 1.10 trying to steal some money would be pretty upset this morning."
Titan Bet trader Nikos Tsagkatakis believes the Cottagers will plump for an English coach if they miss out on Jol.
"Martin Jol has been with Ajax for a year now and during that time the Amsterdam side has won the Dutch Cup and were just one point off winning the league title. The coach though it reported to be angry with Ajax's board which has refused to sanction any money for transfers and has already lost Dennis Rommedahl and Marko Pantelic. More are expected to follow.
"If the board don't replace the players that have left or are about to leave with players of equal ability then it's very likely Jol will move to another club like Fulham. Jol has never hidden the fact that he had a great time in London and that he would have like to return to English football at some point.
"Fulham is a London club and Jol still has a house in the area which makes his return not dead in the water just yet. If Fulham don't land the Dutchman then I have the feeling that they will go for an English manager like Dave Jones who is a decent candidate for the job."
The race looks set to run and run or at leat until Martin Jol makes his mind up. Fulham meanwhile are 8/1 (9.0) to get relegated next season.
