La Roja became the first country to successfully defend the European Championship, also achieving another unprecedented feat by being first side to win three major international tournaments in a row.
Despite backing up their stylish football with success, Goal.com readers felt that Spain's class of 2008-12 were not the greatest of all time, however.
That honour went to the Brazil team of 1970, who tallied 3351 votes (43.67 per cent), just 133 more than La Roja's total of 3218 (41.96%).
West Germany's all-conquering side of the early 1970s took third place with just 489 votes, followed by the Zinedine Zidane inspired France outfit that won World Cup 1998 and Euro 2000 with 401 votes. Just 2.77% of the readers believed other national sides deserve to be hailed as the best of the best.
