thumbnail Hello,

The Feyenoord legend is optimistic about the future, despite summer failings, and has stressed that it will not be any good for Oranje if the national team boss leaves

Former Netherlands international Willem van Hanegem feels that Bert van Marwijk should remain national team coach, despite a disastrous Euro 2012 campaign for the Dutch.

Van Marwijk has a contract until after Euro 2016, but his future is uncertain after Oranje crashed out of this summer's tournament in the group stages following defeats against Denmark, Germany and Portugal.

"Bert should continue. It would help f*** all if Van Marwijk quit as national team coach. He should say farewell to a few of the players [rather than go himself]," Van Hanegem stated to Voetbal International.

"He has to sit down with players such as [Rafael] van der Vaart, [Wesley] Sneijder and Robin [van Persie] and tell them how he wants things to pan out. He should also try to get [Arjen] Robben and [Klaas-Jan] Huntelaar on board.

"These five players are crucial for the team and for the development of the younger players. This team still has a bright future ahead. I wouldn't have any fear ahead of the qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup with this group of players."

Netherlands lock horns with Turkey on September 6 in their opening game of the qualification campaign.
