Capello assistant Galbiati slams 'ungrateful' Rooney over 'lost in translation' comments

The Italian has hit back at the Manchester United striker's criticism of the former Roma coach, and has backed his countrymen to overcome England

Italo Galbiati has hit at out Wayne Rooney for his heavy criticism of Fabio Capello's time in charge of England.

The Manchester United striker had suggested that the Italian's instructions were often lost in translation, and that his departure was the reason behind England's recent upturn in performance.

Galbiati, a trusted assistant to Capello, believes that Rooney's comments were unwarranted, and defended the work that they did during their time with the Three Lions.

"He's ungrateful," Galbiati told Radio Ies. "Capello made himself understood and respected. Football has only one language: the ball. He cannot teach us anything.

"England are now a solid team, good and strong on the counterattack."

Despite the progress that England have made under new manager Roy Hodgson, Galbiati predicted that they would lose to Italy in Sunday's Euro 2012 quarter-final, and stated that he would rather have Daniele De Rossi in his team than Steven Gerrard.

"Italy to win 1-0, with a goal from [Antonio] Cassano. Steven is a leader, but I'd take Daniele."
