Jiracek, Yarmolenko & five Euro 2012 stars who will have impressed the continent's biggest clubs

Jiracek, Yarmolenko & five Euro 2012 stars who will have impressed the continent's biggest clubs

Jun 21, 2012 9:07:00 AM

After some encouraging performances at the tournament, Goal.com suggests five players who could earn a switch to a more prestigious team during this summer's transfer window

ANALYSIS

It is often suggested that big tournaments prove to be a shop window for big clubs and Euro 2012 has been no exception with a number of players making names for themselves in Poland and Ukraine.

Youngsters and veterans alike from all over the continent have showcased their talents and with the entire world watching have undoubtedly gained a handful of new suitors that will display their interest during this summer's transfer window. Goal.com takes a look at five of the players who may have caught the eye of Europe's elite.

Club CSKA Moscow
Contract 31/12/2015

Having starred for CSKA Moscow since he made his debut aged 18, Alan Dzagoev was tipped by many to be the young player of the tournament.

Despite coming into the Euros on the back of injury and very little match practice, the now 22-year-old did not disappoint, scoring two goals in the initial 4-1 victory against Czech Republic and a third against Poland.

He benefited from being pushed further forward than he is at his club to a roaming right wing role, which he admits he prefers because it means he does not have to defend. He displayed excellent touch and good positioning but will certainly have to work on his defence if he is to be a major force in Europe.

Club Wolfsburg

The Czech Republic's unlikely ascent to Group A winners owes a lot to the talents of Petr Jiracek. The 26-year-old Wolfsburg midfielder has found the net in consecutive group games from an unfamiliar right midfield position. Jiracek was drafted out to the wing, a position he has played just a handful of times, but responded with man of the match performances.

Patrick Vieira told him that he was "the heart of the team" after the 1-0 victory over the co-hosts, and rightly so.

Jiracek has all of the attributes to become one of the top midfielders in Europe. The ex-Viktoria Plzen player just needs to maintain this level of form and one of Europe's elite clubs will surely be his next destination.

Club: Brondby
Contract  30/06/2013

Denmark's Euro 2012 campaign started off on the right foot with a shock win over the Netherlands, in which Michael Krohn-Dehli played a major role by scoring a well-taken winner. The Brondby star dropped his shoulder before bursting past his marker and firing through the legs of goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg.

Perhaps it was revenge for an uninspiring four-year spell in the Eredivisie with RKC Waalwijk, Ajax, and Sparta Rotterdam. The 29-year-old, however, continued to impress in a sensational 3-2 loss to Portugal, provinding an assist for Nicklas Bendtner before finding the back of the net again in a heart-breaking loss to Germany that finally saw his side find it necessary to pack their bags.

Despite this, Krohn-Dehli was definitely Denmark's best player and could likely be prised from his club side for a relatively low price.

Despite Croatia exiting the competition at the group stages, one man in particular stood out from the crowd. Mario Mandzukic grabbed three goals in his opening two games, showcasing his goalscoring exploits and his impressive work-rate.

After a falling out with club coach Felix Magath, the forward has been transfer listed and appears to be on his way out of Wolfsburg this summer. Everton have already been linked with an €8 million move yet the 26-year-old's performances at the Euros are sure to alert a host of interested parties.

ANDRIY YARMOLENKO

Club Dynamo Kiev
Contract  30/12/2013

Andriy Yarmolenko did his growing reputation no harm at all during Euro 2012, with his inventive and energetic approach on the right wing winning him many new fans around Europe. Techically sound, the 22-year-old proved to be a team player, interacting brilliantly with right-back Oleg Gusev, and that partnership was especially important in the win against Sweden.

The young Dinamo Kiev star is a versatile footballer. Naturally left-footed, he has a good shot with his right as well and is able to cover both flanks. When needed, he is also capable of playing as a second striker, and during his early days at Dinamo was occasionally used as a left-back.

AC Milan are very interested in the €15m-rated player's services, and he will undoubtedly  be labelled 'the new Shevchenko' if such a move does take place in the coming weeks.
