Hart: England are ready to take on anyone at Euro 2012

Hart: England are ready to take on anyone at Euro 2012

By John Stammers
Jun 20, 2012 2:24:00 PM

The 25-year-old has hailed a 'strong' Three Lions squad and the 'brilliant' support of the fans and is proud of Roy Hodgson's team's unbeaten record during the group stage

England goalkeeper Joe Hart is proud of his country's achievements at Euro 2012 so far and thinks the Three Lions squad is ready to take on anyone after maintaining an unbeaten record during the group stage.

Roy Hodgson's men topped Group D with a narrow 1-0 victory over co-hosts Ukraine, thanks to a Wayne Rooney goal on his return from suspension, while France were condemned to second after losing 2-0 to Sweden.

The Manchester City goalkeeper revealed that the squad have paid little attention to what's been going on elsewhere but hailed the support of English fans out in Poland and Ukraine and back at home.

"We've come here as a very strong group of players and we haven't listened to a lot going on outside of us," Hart told The FA's official website.

"We've listened to the support of those magnificent people tonight and the brilliant people back home who have all wished us well.

"We're just really proud."

England now have until Sunday to prepare for their quarter-final with Italy, after they avoided an arguably tougher tie with defending champions Spain thanks to France's defeat.

Hart has insisted that England are ready to take on whoever they come up against, however, and will continue to expect to win matches despite the harder opposition they will now face.

"I feel we can achieve what we came here to achieve," Hart said.

"We came here to win games.

"We played France in the first game, which was a tough start and we felt we could've won that game.

"But we've won these last two games and we've done it in the group stages, so we'll take on whoever is in front of us next."

There was a significant moment of controversy during the clash with Oleg Blokhin's men when Marko Devic's shot beat Hart and was subsequently hooked away by John Terry, with replays showing that the ball had already crossed the goal-line before the Chelsea defender made his clearance.

Hart was unsympathetic to Ukraine's complaints, however, pointing out that the referee's decision is final.

"I don't really care to be honest," Hart added. "The referee's there to make decision, and he's made his decision. It's 1-0, we won 1-0. That's it."

Champions League final - LIVE!
German giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund will battle it out at Wembley for European glory. Get involved by sending us your thoughts via Twitter or Facebook! Hosted by Mark Doyle.

TERRIFIC STOP FROM NEUER! Just moments after a corner forced by a long-range strike from Lewandowski, Gundogan angles the ball wide to Reus, who picks out Blaszczykowski at the near post. The latter connects with the cross first time, but Neur is equal to it. That was a fine reaction save, but Dortmund should be ahead. And you know what, Dortmund deserve to be ahead. We're 15 minutes in but Bayern haven't started yet.
7:59 PM BST
Nothing to get too excited about just yet from a Dortmund perspective, but they are looking more purposeful than their heavily-fancied opponents, and Blaszczykowski has just had the first real shot in anger. It was a dreadful attempt, to be fair, but there's no denying that Dortmund have demonstrated the greater attacking intent thus far.

Bit of a cagey opening at Wembley. Hardly surprising, of course. Familiarity breeds contempt, as these two have shown in recent years, but it also breeds caution and it is worth remembering that both of their Bundesliga meetings this seasoned ended all-square.
7:47 PM BST
I'm happy to report that not only is the Champions League final under way, Bastian Schweinsteiger is a part of it having shaken off that knock he received during the warm-up.
