Russia to appeal Uefa-imposed punishments following fan trouble against Czech Republic
Europe's governing body issued a suspended six-point deduction on the nation's Euro 2016 qualifiers, as well as a €120,000 fine following the conduct of their supporters
Russia have appealed Uefa's decision to punish them for the behaviour of their fans during the match with Czech Republic on June 8, where a number of stewards were reportedly hospitalised.
The association issued a suspended six-point deduction on the nation's Euro 2016 qualifying campaign, as well as a €120,000 fine for what was construed as "violent, offensive and unsafe conduct" displayed by supporters after the 4-1 win.
CCTV footage of a walkway on the outside of the Municipal Stadium in Wroclaw showed several stewards taking blows, while one was beaten to the ground and four stadium workers ended up in hospital, only to be released later that night.
Inside the stadium, Russian fans lit flares and set off fireworks, while a Russian Empire flag was considered a symbol of far-right politics.
The country's Football Union has come in for criticism over the behaviour of the supporters, especially given that they will host the 2018 World Cup.
