Abidal unable to attend France-Sweden game
The experienced defender will have to undergo some medical tests at the start of the week, but Les Bleus remain hopeful he will join up with the squad during the knockout stages
France midfielder Yohan Cabaye has revealed that Barcelona left-back Eric Abidal will be unable to attend Les Bleus' last Euro 2012 group match against Sweden on Tuesday. The 32-year-old, who underwent a liver transplant in April, had been invited by the French Football Federation (FFF) to watch the decisive match in Kiev.
However, according to Cabaye, Abidal will not be able to join up with the rest of the France squad as the game falls on the same day in which he has to undergo a routine follow-up medical examination.
"Abi was supposed to join us in Ukraine and spend some time with us, but unfortunately that will not happen," Cabaye wrote on his official website.
"We should see him soon, though, if we qualify for the quarter-finals."
France sit at the top of the Group D standings, level on points with England after a 1-1 draw against the Three Lions and a 2-0 victory over Ukraine.
