Word on the Tweet: Owen, Muamba & more hail 'incredible' Irish fans

After Thursday's focus on Harry Redknapp's sacking as Tottenham manager, Twitter folk are once again focused on Euro 2012 as England prepare to face Sweden, and France take on co-hosts Ukraine.

Recently-released Newcastle United striker Peter Lovenkrands is full of predictions for both games, while Reading striker Noel Hunt is more than impressed by the Republic of Ireland fans following their unrelenting support during the 4-0 defeat by Spain.

Of course, though, we do have a select few Premier League-based tweets as West Bromwich Albion's Stephen Reid breaks the hearts of millions by confirming that he isn't moving to either Manchester City or United.

As another day comes so does another collection of the best tweets from your favourite footballers, right here on Word on the Tweet!

"Our Fans pulled me through that game!! Gutted my bro didn't get on I thought he would of gave them a problem been direct along with Longy!

"Honestly loving every Irish fan at the Euros! Never stopped singing for a second!! We've defo got the "Best Fan in the Euros"prize in the bag!"

Brother of Irish winger Stephen Hunt, Reading striker Neil Hunt laments the fact his kin could not get on to have his backside walloped by a much-stronger Spain side. He also credits the Republic of Ireland fans for singing through the misery of the 4-0 hammering on Thursday night.

"Think England will win today! I'll go for 2-1.

"If big Andy Carroll starts he will score I think!

"France will beat Ukraine! I think about 3-0! Ben Arfa to score 1!"

Peter Lovenkrands predicts an England victory for his former Newcastle United team-mate Andy Carroll, and a France victory for his former Tyneside team-mates Hatem Ben Arfa and Yohan Cabaye. No bias I assume, Peter?

"Off to Scotland to celebrate @Charlie26Adam wedding, see you tonight lad, hope it all goes well."

Charlie Adam ran out of actual team-mates to invite as so many Liverpool players are on their holidays or at Euro 2012, so he had to settle for Wolves winger Jamie O'Hara, who was enthusiastic enough at least...kidding! Word on the Tweet congratulates the Scot on his nuptials.

"Sorry 2 disappoint united and city fans...... I won't be signing I'm committed to the mighty #baggies."

Manchester United hearts sank and Manchester City hopes faded when Steven Reid shot down (self-created, Word on the Tweet expects) rumours of a move from West Bromwich Albion.

"Is it me or does it seem like the the #Euro2012 is going really quick?"

Word is, Nathan Redmond waited with baited breath for hours after this tweet, praying someone would respond and ease his fears that he was experiencing time at an accelerated rate...

"Iniesta wouldn't give the ball away in a phone box."

Jose Baxter, we see what you did there! You cheeky Toffee!

"Imagine how loud the Irish fans would be if they had something to shout about! #properfans"

First, Michael Owen gives the Irish bunch a pat on the back...

"Credit to the Irish fans the way they support they team. It's incredible."

...then Bolton Wanderers midfielder Fabrice Muamba adds to the adoration of the Irish nation...

"What a great fans Ireland got..losing 4-0 and keep singing..lots of respect."

...and, finally, Yossi Benayoun felt like piling the praise on the swathes of green inside the Polish stadium. Chances are the Irish supporters were so drunk on Guinness that they thought Spain were the team playing in green and that they were winning 4-0. Imagine the reaction on their little Irish faces when the news was broken to them this morning!

"Tito you have big shoes to fill... #FCB"

Sone Aluko, he of Rangers 'fame', sends his shoe-related regards to new Barcelona boss Tito Vilanova.
