Shevchenko inspires Ukraine to victory: I feel like I am 20 years old
The Dynamo Kiev striker reckons he rolled back the years after turning in an impressive display against Sweden and was positive regarding Ukraine's chances of progression
Overjoyed Ukraine striker Andriy Shevchenko said he felt like a 20-year-old after netting a double in his side's 2-1 victory against Sweden on Monday. The Euro 2012 co-hosts found themselves on the back foot early in the second half following a Zlatan Ibrahimovic strike, but two goals from the Dinamo Kiev forward completed a dramatic turnaround.
Shevchenko was given a standing ovation when he was substituted shortly before the full-time whistle by coach Oleg Blokhin.
"I feel great, like I am 20 years old, so I feel fine," he told German TV channel ZDF. "This was a historic game for us, a great victory.
"I feel less adrenaline in my body now, but more in my head. I tried to be at my best, and I succeded.
"I would like to thank everyone who supported me to be fit for the Euros. I had some fitness problems before the tournament, but I am here now!"
By beating Sweden, Ukraine jumped to the top of the Group D standings after England and France played out a 1-1 draw earlier on Monday.
"I believe we can achieve a lot with this team," Shevchenko enthused.
