Torres backs Fabregas to keep Spain starting spot

The Chelsea striker believes his Spanish team-mate should keep his place in the first XI if he continues to find the back of the net in the European Championship
Spain striker Fernando Torres believes Cesc Fabregas should keep his place in the starting line-up if he continues to find the net in their Euro 2012 campaign.

The Barcelona midfielder scored the equaliser for La Roja in their opening group game against Italy on Sunday, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Torres came on for Fabregas for the remaining 20 minutes but spurned two good chances to find the winner.

The Chelsea forward is determined to help his team and insists that Spain must win their remaining games after the stalemate with the Azzurri.

"The important thing is that Spain win, however we can. I think we looked good playing both ways," he told reporters.

"If Cesc keeps scoring, then he should keep playing."

Spain's next clash is against the Republic of Ireland on Thursday.
