Germany star Bastian Schweinsteiger believes Euro 2012 is the perfect opportunity to put Bayern Munich's Champions League final defeat to Chelsea out of his mind.

The influential midfielder missed the decisive penalty during the shoot-out in the showpiece at the Allianz Arena earlier this month, and he is keen to make a fresh start at this summer's tournament in order to shrug off the disappointment of missing out on Champions League glory.

"You are trying really hard to get the loss off your mind, but you're thinking about the game all the time," the Bayern midfielder stated to Bild.

"It is not easy to forget about it, but it's a bit easier when you have a new challenge to focus on. Euro 2012 will be a fresh start for us."

Germany will have to contend with Denmark, Netherlands and Portugal in Group B at the European Championship. They start the tournament with the match against the Dutch on June 9.
