Norwich skipper claims that now he has scored against top-level opposition he has to be considered for a place in Roy Hodgson's Euro 2012 squad for the trip to Poland and Ukraine

Norwich City striker Grant Holt has staked his claim for an England call-up for Roy Hodgson's Euro 2012 squad by declaring that "something is wrong" if he is not considered.

The 31-year old has netted 15 goals in the Premier League this term, with Wayne Rooney the only English player to have scored more this season. And, with the Manchester United star set to miss the opening two games through suspension, the Canaries captain believes that he is the ideal replacement.

"The goals I have scored and the performances I have put in, if I am not in with a shout, something is wrong," Holt told the Daily Mail.

"[Roy Hodgson] will pick me or he won't, but I won't be far off. I should be in his thoughts with what I have achieved this year."

The striker's goals have coincided with the Canaries' meteoric rise from League One to a mid-table position in the Premier League. In each of the last three seasons he has won the club's Player of the Season award, having scored 60 goals in 120 appearances since he moved to Carrow Road in 2009.

Holt added: "A lot of people have pinned me in one way and never seen me play football. People have said I haven't done it at the top level, but there is no bigger or better league than this.

"Every week you are playing against internationals. It baffles me to hear some people's comments, some of them have never seen me play football. I will take their comments and brush them off.”

With England manager Hodgson naming his squad on Wednesday, Holt also talked up the chances of Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy.

"If John churns in performances like he has the last three weeks, there's no one better than him and Joe [Hart]. Without a doubt he should be in that squad," he enthused.

"I would give John and the young lads the opportunity to show what they can do."

The England Under-21 keeper was also confident of a call-up, having impressed during Norwich's first season in the top flight since 2005.

"English goalkeepers are pretty thin on the ground at the moment. By default, I am the next in line," Ruddy opined.

"The attention that is coming my way is nice. If it happens I will be over the moon. If it doesn't, I will make sure I come back bigger and stronger next year.

"Holty is a handful. If you asked any defender in the Premier League who they didn't like coming up against this season, he would probably be in their top three because of the way he's an old style centre forward."
