Laurent Blanc has explained how France star Yoann Gourcuff is recovering from les Bleus' nightmare World Cup.
‘Le President’s decision to drop the Olympique Lyonnais offensive midfielder to the bench for France’s encounter with Romania on Saturday night drew much attention, especially as Gourcuff came onto the field to score a crucial second goal in stoppage time. Blanc has now urged the press to leave his charge alone, pinpointing the debilitating World Cup adventure as a particularly hard moment for the 24-year-old to overcome.
“He’s a boy who is being rebuilt,” Blanc told the media. “His skills have not disappeared. The only problem is that the episode in South Africa affected him badly.
“He was a late [summer] transfer to Lyon. In my opinion he was not in the best psychological condition to take all that. He is coming back.
“Leave him alone. His skills have not disappeared. Over time, you will notice.”
Gourcuff’s goal against Romania at the weekend was his second at international level, with the other also coming against the Tricolorii.
