Russia Coach Dick Advocaat Disappointed After Slovakia Defeat

Russia coach Dick Advocaat feels his men deserved better than a loss against Slovakia.

Russia dominated play for the majority of their Euro 2012 qualifier against Slovakia, but a single goal from Miroslav Stoch eventually helped the Slovakians to a narrow 1-0 win, much to the dismay of Russia coach Dick Advocaat.

"We dominated play and really deserved better than this. We should have recorded at least a draw. However, things like this happen in football. I thought there was a tug on [Yuri] Zhirkov's shirt that could have resulted in a spot kick, but i refuse to criticise the ref. Lady luck was not on our side on Tuesday," Advocaat was quoted as saying by reporters.

"Slovakia played very negative. They played really defensive and started with nine men behind the ball. They went forward once and scored. They retreated again after that goal.

"I don't think that Zhirkov and Bilyaletdinov shouldn't have played due to their lack of game time this season. If I'd thought like that, I would have played only six players.

The former Belgium coach also took the time to discuss his side's chances of qualifying for Euro 2012 after the loss against Slovakia.

"We still have eight more qualifiers coming up. There will be plenty of chances for us to make up for Tuesday's loss."
