Bosnia’s Emir Spahic Offended By France’s Security Measures Ahead Of Euro 2012 Qualifier
There is an unjust perception in France that Bosnia is a land of 'savages', according to Montpellier star Emir Spahic.
By Robin Bairner
Bosnia captain Emir Spahic has reacted angrily after it was revealed that the France squad are set to use extra security measures ahead of their Euro 2012 qualifier in Sarajevo on Tuesday evening.
Spahic, who turns out in l’Hexagone for Ligue 1 outfit Montpellier, believes that Bosnia has been unfairly portrayed as a country of bandits, which he has vehemently protested against.
“I have the impression that the French believe Bosnia is what it was like 15 years ago when it was at war,” he told la Paillade’s official website. “The biggest stars have come to play in Bosnia in recent years and there have been no problems. I can’t understand why the team of France has needed additional security.
“[I am] saddened that the staff of the French team have taken us for a band of savages.
“I think they will be pleasantly surprised when they come to Bosnia. We have supporters able to set an atmosphere, as is done with la Paillade, but no more. The only fear that the French should have is that on the pitch.”
After losing their opening fixture, the pressure is on les Bleus to gain a positive result against the second seeded team in the section.
