England manager Fabio Capello has banked on rookie centre-back partnership Phil Jagielka and Michael Dawson to keep out Bulgaria in the opening Euro 2012 qualifier.
With experienced duo Rio Ferdinand and John Terry sidelined through injury, the Italian has left out Matthew Upson and gone for new blood. The two defenders are set to make their first competitive starts for their country in the Wembley pressure cooker tonight.
Capello has also kept faith with the 4-4-2 formation that was slated at World Cup 2010. Up front, Wayne Rooney is partnered by Jermain Defoe.
With Frank Lampard sidelined, captain Steven Gerrard has been pushed back into centre-midfield. Manchester City new boy James Milner will provide width from the left, with Theo Walcott hoping to bring his blistering club form to the international stage on the opposite flank.
