Chelsea Winger Florent Malouda To Be Handed France Captaincy – Report
Florent Malouda is set to fend off competition from Alou Diarra and Bacary Sagna to be named France captain.
By Robin Bairner
Football365 believe that Florent Malouda will be the figure chosen by Laurent Blanc to lead France in their European Championship qualifying campaign encounters against Belarus and Bosnia.
The issue of who claims the armband is very much up in the air at present as World Cup captain Patrice Evra is missing due to a suspension handed to him by the FFF (French FA) and is therefore unlikely to regain the honour.
With Jeremy Toulalan and Franck Ribery, two other contenders for the brassard, also suspended by French football’s governing body, Blanc reportedly considered Alou Diarra, Bacary Sagna and Malouda the best suited figures for the role.
Though Sagna was present at Thursday’s press conference alongside the coach, it is believed that Malouda’s international experience and fine form with Chelsea will be enough to see him handed the honour ahead of Friday’s encounter with Belarus. Assuming he comes through the fixture unscathed, he would then lead les Bleus out in Bosnia on Tuesday.
No long-term announcement regarding the role has been made by Blanc.
