Portugal caretaker boss Agostinho Oliveira has decided to add Besiktas winger Ricardo Quaresma to the Portugal squad for the upcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers against Cyprus on Friday and against Norway four days later.
The former Chelsea and Inter attacker was initially left out of the Portugal squad, but Oliveira has decided to give Quaresma a call-up after all because of the withdrawal of Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo due to injury.
"After several contacts with the doctors of Real Madrid, which included seeing the results of the MRI scan carried out today, the medical team came to the conclusion that Ronaldo should not travel to Portugal. In order to not run the risk of worsening the condition, he has been released from the national team," a statement from the Portuguese Football Federation read.
The 26-year-old Quaresma has been in good form ever since he joined Besiktas from Inter earlier this summer and has now been rewarded for his good performances so far this campaign.
The winger missed out on the 2010 Seleccao's World Cup squad and will be looking to impress in order to secure a permanent spot in the national side again.
