Durban coastline - South Africa
Durban is a beautiful coastal city in the Kwazulu Natal province of South Africa. The city will be used as one of the major host cities for the 2010 World Cup, hosting one of the semi-finals, as well as the much-anticipated match-up between Portugal and Brazil in the group stages, at the newly built Moses Mabhida Stadium.

The city relies on tourism, with December being a huge month for Durban, with holiday makers making their way to the coast to enjoy the sand, sea and sun. At that time the beaches are packed, but I like to go to this quiet beach all year round, with few people knowing of its existence.

From the beach a few hundred metres from my home, you can see my apartment building, and it is great to live this close to the ocean, with the fresh air greeting me every morning.

For a treat I make my way to Cacao Chocolate Bar, it is a bit out of the way and not exactly in Durban, but the desserts and coffees are worth the journey.

When I need to get some shopping done, or I want to entertain myself and friends for a few hours, I go to Gateway shopping mall, where movies, restaurants, shops and other fun activities such as ten-pin bowling and surfing are available.

For a more quiet time admiring nature with my father, I go down to a place known to locals as the Lagoon, and we fish in the early hours of the morning. It is always satisfying to catch something nice for lunch.

If you happen to have some spare change down at the beach, why not pass it on to these sand artists, making shapes and pictures for passers-by in the sand.

One of my favourite places to eat in Kwazulu Natal is the Waffle House, with a menu including Mediterranean roasted vegetables with pesto sauce and pecorino, avocado and cream cheese, as well as beef bolognaise - all served on a waffle.

Durban residents are very proud of our beautiful new stadium to be used at the World Cup, and I was at the opening of the Moses Mabhida Stadium, proud to be sitting in a state of the art arena.

When holiday makers come to the region, many of them stay at Umhlanga Rocks, not far from Durban, and it is always nice to go down to the beaches and see the new faces in peak season.

When I decide its time for some good food and gambling with friends, I either go to Suncoast Casino on my doorstep, or I get in my car and drive off to the Wild Coast Sun, where there is always a mood of excitement and enjoyment.

Every weekend I take my niece down to Umdloti Beach, where I taught her to swim in the natural rock pools, so that we can collect shells and swim in the sea.
