Goal.com Player Of The Decade: Right Back
Goal.com invites you to choose the decade's best right-sided full-back from the list of nominees below...
The Nominees:
Dani Alves

The second part of the decade has seen no finer exponent of the attacking right-back role than Brazil and Barcelona's Dani Alves. Arguably the missing piece to the Blaugrana jigsaw when he joined from Sevilla, Alves has helped the club to six major trophies in a single year. Before that, he helped the Andalusians to two UEFA Cups, among other domestic honours.
Cafu

A two-time World Cup winner, the Brazilian played at the highest level until he was 38. A hugely decorated footballer at club level, Cafu won two Scudetti, one with Roma and another with Milan; he also gained, among other honours, the World Club Cup before retiring.
Michel Salgado

Real Madrid's team around the early part of the decade will be marked down as the era of the Galacticos but some unheralded players gave Figo, Zidane et al the platform on which to perform. One of those was Salgado. He helped Madrid to four Liga titles, as well as the 2002 Champions League, before slipping down the pecking order. He is still active however, at Blackburn Rovers.
Lilian Thuram

Whether at centre back or full-back, there were few more effective than Lilian Thuram. The Frenchman was part of the Euro 2000 triumph, a Les Bleus team which could be marked down as the best edition in history, as well as the defeated 2006 World Cup team. At club level, he was remarkable consistent for Parma, Juventus and latterly, Barcelona.
Javier Zanetti

A club legend at Inter, Zanetti has been part of the Nerazzurri for 14 seasons, having seen off 15 managers. His dedication to a once underachieving team has paid off in recent years, with four Scudetti to go alongside his 650-odd appearances for the Benemata. He is still part of the Argentina set-up at the ripe old age of 36.
