Goal.com Player Of The Decade: Goalkeeper

Goal.com invites you to choose the best performing goalkeeper of the past ten years from the choices below...

Welcome to Goal.com's new series of polls on the Players of the Decade!

In this article we look at the top goalkeepers between 2000 and the end of 2009, and ask you to vote for the best one.

The Nominees

Gianluigi Buffon

The world' most expensive goalkeeper, Buffon is a well-decorated veteran despite his relatively tender age of 31. Often lauded as one of the greatest netminders of all-time, his highest achievement has been helping the Italian national team to World Cup glory in 2006. He conceded only two goals along the way; an own goal and a penalty.

Iker Casillas

'San Iker' has been an indispensable commodity for Spain and Real Madrid since bursting onto the scene during the early part of the decade. His honours include the 2002 Champions League for his club and captaining la Furia Roja to Euro 2008 glory.

Petr Cech

The Czech Republic international has established himself as one of the Premier League's most consistent goalkeepers, winning the league title on two occasions as well as claiming two FA Cups.

Oliver Kahn

The 2002 World Cup's Golden Ball winner, Kahn was an inspirational figure for Germany and Bayern Munich throughout the decade. He won the Champions League and six Bundesliga titles with FC Hollywood before retiring in 2008.

Edwin van der Sar

The Dutchman has enjoyed an Indian summer since joining Manchester United in 2005, winning two Premier League titles, as well as the Champions League. Despite approaching his 40s, he is still first choice at Old Trafford and was also named as Euro 2008's best goalkeeper.
