Barcelona stopper Gerard Pique has stated that whoever collects the coveted 2010 Ballon d’Or prize will be deserving winner.
The Spanish defender is a club colleague of all three finalists, and when asked to select who from Lionel Messi, Xavi and Andres Iniesta should be awarded the accolade, he told AS that any of the trio would be a worthy champion.
He commented: “I would give the Ballon d’Or to all three. Messi is the best in the world without question, but for winning the World Cup, the award should be between Xavi and Iniesta.”
The former Manchester United man also added that the realisation of the quality of all three players was truly in evidence for him during their 5-0 demolition of Real Madrid at the Camp Nou.
He added: “In El Clasico, I realised that I play next to the best players.”
The Blaugrana end 2010 two points clear of their rivals Real Madrid at the summit of the Primera Division table.
