Africans In Spain: Mohammed Tchite Helps Racing Santander To Four Goal Rout Of Espanyol
Goal.com's Paul Madden rounds up the key performances from African players in La Liga at the weekend...
Sidi Keita had a miserable afternoon on Saturday as he received his marching orders in Xerez's 2-0 home defeat to Atletico Madrid. After a fine display against his brother's Barcelona side midweek, it was a bad end to the week for the Mali international as he picked up two yellow cards against Los Colchoneros.
Seydou Keita was arguably Barcelona's best player in that win over Xerez on Wednesday but was restricted to a late substitutes appearance in the win away to Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday. The Blaugrana won at the Riazor for the first time in five years to retain their five point lead at the top of the Primera Liga table. Team-mate Yaya Toure of the Ivory Coast, played the full 90 minutes against Xerez and despite a good display, didn't feature at the Riazor.
Another Keita, this time Mallorca's Guinean forward Alhassane Keita came off the bench to grab his sides fourth goal in a 4-1 win over Real Zaragoza as Gregorio Manzano's men remained the only team outside of Barcelona and Real Madrid to retain a 100 per cent record at home in the Primera Liga.
Nigerian forward Kalu Uche almost earned Barcelona hero status at the Bernabeu after he fired Almeria into a shock second half lead against Real Madrid. Los Blancos responded with goals from Gonzalo Higuain, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo to claim all three points but not without a scare from the Andalusian visitors.
It was a weekend to forget for Espanyol's Cameroonian goalkeeper Carlos Kameni as his side were thumped 4-0 at home by Primera Division strugglers Racing Santander.Burundi Under 20 striker Mohammed Tchite bagged the Racinguistas third goal from the spot after Oscar Serrano was felled inside the box.
