Rivaldo
1972: Rivaldo: Brazilian attacking midfielder Rivaldo moved to the Primera Liga in 1996 joining Deportivo La Coruna. After one successful season at the Riazor where he scored 21 league goals, he joined Barcelona where he won two league titles and a Copa del Rey, scoring 130 times in 235 appearances for the Catalan giants. Rivaldo also won a host of individual awards including the FIFA World Player of the Year and the Ballon d'Or in 1999. He later had spells in Italy, Greece and Uzbekistan. Capped 74 times by Brazil, Rivaldo won a World Cup crown in 2002 with the Selecao but his involvement was marred by a shameful dive against Turkey in a group game which resulted in Hakan Unsal getting sent off.

1978: Gabriel Heinze:
Versatile Argentine defender Heinze made his Primera Liga bow with Valladolid in 1997, signing from Newell's Old Boys in Argentina. After initially failing to establish himself he spent one season on loan at Sporting CP before returning to Valladolid and impressing enough to hold down a regular place. He left for PSG in 2001 and made his mark forcing his way into the Argentina national team and earning a move to Manchester United. His form at Old Trafford earned him a return to Spain with La Liga kingpins Real Madrid, where he won a Primera Liga title. Now at Marseille, Heinze has been capped 61 times by the Albiceleste.
