Spanish Cumpleanos: Diego Tristan
Every weekday Goal.com celebrates the birthday of past and present La Liga-related figures. Today includes all those born January 5.
1956: Jose Maria Bengoetxea: A striker, Bengoetxea came through the ranks at Athletic Bilbao but failed to establish himself as a regular in Los Leones first team, playing just 26 league games in five seasons. After a lack of opportunities he moved to the Segunda Division where he retired in 1985 after spells at Celta Vigo and Alaves.
1969: Risto Vidakovic: Former Yugoslavian international defender Vidakovic joined Real Betis in 1994 from Red Star Belgrade and went on to play 120 Primera Liga games in six years. He later joined Osasuna but left after one season, signing for Polideportivo Ejido where he retired in 2002.
1976: Diego Tristan: Currently operating as a striker for Cadiz, Tristan was a talismanic striker during Deportivo La Coruna's golden era at the beginning of the century. After coming through the youth ranks at Real Betis, Tristan had a spell at Mallorca before his most successful spell in football, which came with Depor, where he managed 87 goals in 177 league appearances from 2000 to 2006. He also won 15 caps for Spain, scoring on four occasions.
1984: Ikechukwu Uche: Nigerian striker Uche came to Spanish football aged just 17, joining Segunda side Racing de Ferrol before joining Recreativo de Huelva where he won promotion in his first season. After a two year spell at Getafe, Uche joined Real Zaragoza during the summer of 2009 but had his season cut short by a ligament injury. He has 21 caps for Nigeria.
1991: Daniel Pacheco: Capped by Spain at various underage levels, striker Pacheco joined Liverpool in 2007 after a four year spell in Barcelona's youth setup. The promising attacker has played much of his football in Liverpool's reserves but this season earned his UEFA Champions League and Premier League debuts for the Merseyside outfit.
