Calcio Compleanno: Diego Fuser
Every weekday Goal.com celebrates the birthday of past and present Calcio-related figures. Today includes all those born on November 11...
1951: Sergio Magistrelli (58) – Showed a lot of promise at a young age, making his professional debut for Como in Serie B as a 16-year-old. After four years there, and then a brief stint with Atalanta, the young attacker earned a switch to Inter in 1972, the same season that he would represent the Italy Under-21 side on four occasions, scoring three times. Unfortunately though, he was unable to replicate this form with the Nerazzurri, and found himself playing with a range of clubs for the rest of the decade, including Sampdoria, Palermo and Lecce, as a result.
1968: Diego Fuser (41) – Well known former Italian international, who commenced his playing days with Torino, where he stamped his authority as a youngster in Serie A. His efforts saw him join Milan – where he would win a European Champions Cup in 1990, and a Scudetto in the following year – for three seasons, with one of those being on loan at Fiorentina, before finally settling down and establishing himself in the topflight with Lazio, where he scored 35 times in 188 appearances, from 1992-1998. After winning the Coppa Italia final in his final season, he joined the high flying Parma, where he continued to excel by winning another Coppa Italia title, as well as a UEFA Cup. An Italian Super Cup came with the Ducali at the conclusion of his first season, and his second came two years later when he joined Roma. Since 2003 though, the midfielder failed to rediscover his very best touch, forcing him to play in the very lower levels of Italian football.
1977: Maniche (32) – Talented Portuguese international midfielder, who excelled in his home country in the first decade of his career. After proving his worth with the likes of Benfica and Alverca, he joined Porto in 2002; where in three seasons he would go on to win it all with the proud club. Two domestic titles, a Portuguese Cup, two Super Cups, a UEFA Cup in 2003 with victory over Celtic in the final, and even more incredibly, a Champions League title in the following season, after demolishing Monaco 3-0. After winning the Club World Cup midway through his final season, Maniche enjoyed stints in the Ukraine, England and Spain, before being loaned to Inter from Atletico Madrid for a brief period in 2008. Fortunate enough to win a Scudetto with the Nerazzurri that season, before returning to Madrid. Currently plays with Bundesliga outfit Koln.
