Welcome to Goal.com's regular feature: Goal.com World Player of the Week. Each week our worldwide team of editors will put forward a selected candidate, as chosen by Goal.com International, who deserves recognition for achieving something special that matchday. It won't necessarily be the best player in the world - at least not usually - but whoever we nominate will have done something amazing. It might be for a particularly awesome performance or for something praiseworthy off the pitch - either way, the person in question deserves special attention...

Goal.com World Player of the Week #43: Arjen Robben

Club: FC Bayern Munich
Country: Germany
Age: 26
Role: Winger
Castrol Ranking: 9
Achievement: Goal scoring and confident performances in the Champions League and domestically

Bayern are back on top of the Bundesliga. Their fans would say that's where they belong, but it's a spot that's been all too strange to them in recent years.

That they've returned to the summit is largely down to one man: Arjen Robben. The Dutchman scored twice this weekend in a close-fought win over Freiburg to cap off what has been a marvellous week.

What's more, his wonder-goal at Fiorentina in midweek put Bayern through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, and in some style. That strike, and his wing play in general, would perhaps have been enough in and of itself to win this week's award. The weekend performance just cemented it.

Congratulations to Arjen Robben, our 43rd Goal.com World Player of the Week!

Honourable Mentions:

Lionel Messi - Barcelona

The headlines in recent weeks have all been about Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo, but Lionel Messi showed why he was last year's Golden Ball winner with a second-half masterclass against Valencia. A hat-trick that left his opponents dazed, the Argentine, when on song, is unstoppable.

Nicklas Bendtner - Arsenal

The much-maligned forward has well and truly found his shooting boots this week, putting Porto to the sword with a hat-trick before finding a last-gasp winner against Hull City to keep the Gunners well and truly in the title race.

Kader Keita - Galatasaray

The Ivorian set up two of his side's goals and netted a goal of his own as Cimbom ousted lowly Ankaragucu to go top of the Super Lig.

Wayne Rooney - Manchester United

He just can't stop scoring. The Scouse forward yet again enjoyed a week to remember as he scored twice against both Fulham and Milan.

Cristiano Lucarelli - Livorno

The man forever synonymous with his hometown team fired home a hat-trick to deny Roma all three points on the Tuscan coast, taking his season tally to eight and giving his side a fighting chance of overtaking Lazio.

Leave your notes of congratulations for Arjen below, or discuss who else deserves a place in the sun this week...
