Juventus President Cobolli Gigli: Del Piero & Diego Out To Stun Real Madrid
The Old Lady chief is confident the duo will bring Real Madrid to their knees in tonight's Peace Cup semi-final.
Juventus and Real Madrid square off this evening in the semi-final of the Peace Cup in Seville, and Bianconeri president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli is hoping that captain Alessandro Del Piero and new signing Diego will teach the Merengues another lesson after ‘Alex’ guided the Turin giants to two marvellous wins over los Blancos in last season’s Champions League.
“That was the highest moment of our season,” Cobolli Gigli enthused in La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“I still have in front of my eyes what Del Piero did in those matches. I am now curious to see him alongside Diego, and I say there’s no two without three.
“I want confirmation from this game that we are on the right path. [Head coach Ciro] Ferrara wants the team to face these tests as real games - he wants to win and see an aggressive Juve.
“Real are a great side with many stars. But we are there and have the right mentality. This clash will put both teams’ European ambitions to the test and it’s a really good one, as Juve and Real will both be protagonists in the next Champions League.”
Juventus have defeated Sevilla 2-1 and Seongnam 3-0 in their first two outings in the Peace Cup, with Brazilian ace Diego marking his Bianconeri debut with a superb strike against the Korean side.
