Jornada 4 Recap: Chivas The Best
Two of the top teams did battle this weekend. Chivas took care of their foe and positioned themselves in a great spot in the table. America is having problems without their key players and the relegation race is almost over with.

Toluca All Alone
“We’ve practically been up there for the last two years, this is a team that works hard and wins. We don’t go out and rant when tings don’t go right and there is no support. This is when we truly know who’s on the boat and who’s not, when we lose were a bunch of morons,” said Antonio Naelson “Zinha” after the game against Monterrey.
If you haven’t kept up with the Mexican league you will find it surprising to hear that Toluca find themselves at the bottom of the rungs. Los Diablos have only managed one win in four encounters and are really suffering to produce any offensive power.
Zinha along with other teammates were not mad at Toluca’s play on Sunday. Oh no they were mad their fans and how there was no support. Players from Toluca were being booed off the field when ever they were subbed.
You can’t really blame the crowd though. Toluca has done nothing but spoil the Toluca faithful with good seasons, good games and plenty of goals in the past years. This season has been different. The Toluca fans are not getting spoiled and like any great fan they are mad.
The assistance in the Estadio Demesio Diez has been down but Zinha can’t blame the fans for their ugly play. People all over the world are strapped for cash right now. Spending 350 pesos to go see your team lose isn’t worth it right now. That money could be better spent on other things that are necessities.
Even if Toluca were winning this might still be happening. It’s happened with other sports around the World. Zinha and the rest of the Toluca players need to recognize that not everyone gets paid the big bucks and feeding the family is more important than attending a game, especially when that team is playing so poorly.
Cruz Azul Is Not Pachuca
Cruz Azul has started the Bicentenario in poor form. Last season Cruz Azul turned things around and got to the final before losing the championship to Monterrey. This season Cruz Azul was predicted to be one of the top teams if not the top team. Things have not worked that way.
During the off season Cruz Azul seemed to grow stronger with the signing of Christian Gimenez. Gimenez and Enrique Meza made a great duo during their time in Pachuca. Meza of course brought Gimemenez hoping that the Argentine would provide an extra spring to Cruz Azul’s game but that is yet to happen.
When Meza and Chaco were together in Pachuca it seemed like Meza trusted much of the Tuzo offense to got through Gimenez. Gimenez of course was a big time player and would produce successfully. Cruz Azul is not Pachuca however and things are done differently.
Cruz Azul’s attack did not need to run through Christian Gimenez in order for it to be successful. They had the league leading scorer, Emanuel Villa, scoring on mostly every play. Since Gimenez joined La Maquina, Villa has been unable to score. Coincidentally, Cruz Azul’s only victory this season came when Gimenez was still not in the line-up.
Meza needs to go back to what he was doing last season. Maybe put Gimenez somewhere else because after all you have been the only one who has been able to get the best out of him. Let Emanuel Villa be the face of the franchise and let Gimenez take the second role.
Raul Arias Seeking New Profession
The ex-Necaxa Manager, Raul Arias, has got it made. After falling out of favor with Chivas, the manager worked out his contract so that he would still be paid even though he does nothing for the Chivas organization. The deal is as long as Arias remains with out a coaching job he would continue to receive checks from Jorge Vergara.
Now we are not one hundred percent sure if Raul arias would be paid if he found another job. This is in question since Arias seems to be seeking a boxing career.
“My friend Cesar told me that Raul Arias was in the stadium. I turned saw Arias and told him: It was good thing that they fired you from Chivas. We continued to walk when Arias suddenly appeared and socked me in the mouth. Then his friend started punching me and that’s when I started to bleed,” said Raul Arias’ opponent, Juan Antonio Gonzalez, to Mediotiempo.com.
Raul arias lived out one of many managers dream’s even if it was for a brief moment. He was finally able to punch a disgruntled fan in the face. Arias of course was not hit with any charges and walked away like nothing ever happened.
Another thing to note is what was Raul Arias doing at the Cruz Azul game? There were more attractive games than the Cruz Azul - Santos game. Maybe Arias was touring the facility in which he will be coaching in a very near future. If Meza continues to disappoint, it wouldn’t surprise to hear Arias as a possible candidate to replace him.
On Their Way Down
Usually there would be a list here of the 5 teams who are in danger of getting demoted. It would really be pointless now to make the list because we all know who is going down. That’s right it is going to be Indios and only a divine miracle can save the Ciudad Juarez team.
Who’s Hot, Who’s Not
Hot
1. Ulises Mendivil- Scored two goals to propel Pachuca over San Luis
2. Javier Hernandez- Four straight games with goals
3. Raul Arias- Too hot to control his temper
4. Omar Bravo- Finally scores for Chivas
5. Estudiantes- got first win of the season
Not
1. Itamar Batista- missed a point blank attempt and a lot of other chances
2. Toluca- Watch out Indios, Toluca is going for your record
3. Cruz Azul- Winless with Gimenez (The curse of Chaco)
4. America- All that money and still no depth.
5. Pumas- Let Tigres get back in it despite being up by two goals.
Best XI
GK: Jose Francisco Canales (Atlas)
DEF: Mario Mendez (Atlas), Aaron Galindo (Chivas), Mauricio Romero (Morelia), Jonny Magallon (Chivas)
MID: Miguel Zepeda (Atlas), Lucas Lobos (Tigres), Israel Castro (Pumas), and Luis Perez (Monterrey)
FWD: Darwin Quintero (Santos), Ulises Mendivil (Pachuca)
Best Game: Queretaro vs. Chivas
The top two teams headlined the fourth Jornanda in a packed Corregidora stadium. The game was a dead lock between both sides but Chivas found the win in the last 15 minutes of the game. Strikes form Omar Bravo and Javier Hernandez kept Chivas unbeaten and as Superliders.
Team of the Week: Estudiantes
Estudiantes finally fell back onto earth after being eliminated in the Libertadores. Estudiantes got their first win in the Bicentenario after a 3-0 pounding against Jaguares.
Player of the week: Ulises Mendivil
Ulises mendivil came on as a sub for Pachuca in the 59th minute. He immediately let his presence be felt. Mendivil notched the win for Pachuca late in the game and in a span of six minutes. Both of Mendivil’s strikes were top class as he gave Pachuca the win and the second spot in the overall table.
