thumbnail Hello,

The Italian coach has hit out at Philippe Kalt after the Colombia international was forced off with a potentially serious knee problem in Wednesday's win

Monaco head coach Claudio Ranieri has blasted referee Philippe Kalt for failing to protect his players during their 3-0 Coupe de France win against Chasselay after Radamel Falcao sustained a potentially serious knee injury.

The Colombia international was forced to leave the pitch shortly after opening the scoring following a strong tackle inside the area from Soner Ertek and Ranieri has blamed the official for failing to protect Falcao from fierce challenges during the game.

"If Falcao is seriously injured, it's on the referee," Ranieri told reporters.

"I know that when you play a 'smaller' team, they will play really hard. It's normal and I warned my players about it.

"But it's not possible that the referee whistles for every foul, but never gave a yellow card to anybody.

"The referee needs to see when there is a foul and award the free-kick, and when it's really hard, it's a yellow card for the first one and a red card for the second one.

"I did not see that from the referee."

The 27-year-old will undergo further examination to determine the extent of the injury, as fears mount he could be ruled out of the World Cup.
