Rafik Saifi: The Results Of Our Opponents Don’t Interest Us
The Algerian striker believes that his national side are still very much in the driver’s seat in their World Cup qualifying group and is not worried about Egypt’s recent win over Rwanda.
Algerian international striker Rafik Saifi has reacted strongly to Egypt’s 3-0 win over Rwanda in World Cup qualifying by telling Le Buteur that he and his team-mates are completely unperturbed by the result and that they are still favourites to top their group.
“From the beginning of qualifying, Egyptians and Zambians haven’t stopped saying that they’re better. We preferred to stay focused on our preparation," he explained.
"Today, the ones who talk the least are dominating the group. Once more, the results of other teams don’t interest us and once more our destiny is in our hands."
Ironically, the player then went on to say that he is hoping for at least one “misstep” from their main group rivals, Egypt, in their upcoming away matches versus Rwanda and Zambia so that his side will be able to celebrate their qualification to South Africa 2010 with their fans at the 5th of July Stadium in Algiers.
Nevertheless, Saifi assured the supporters of the 'Fennecs' that all the players on the team are conscious of the responsibility they have and that they know they still have a great deal of work to do before they can book their ticket to next summer’s football extravaganza.
