The Algerian Football Federation has received a $20,000 fine from
FIFA due to their fans’ use of flares during their team's 3-1 World Cup
qualifying victory over Egypt in Blida on June 7.
The North African country’s FA has been warned about the issue in the past and could risk further fines or even have a match closed to the public if the infringements continue.
The Desert Foxes host Zambia in their next qualifier, which will be played on September 6, and then host Rwanda on October 10 before travelling to Cairo for their last fixture versus Egypt.
The side also has a home friendly with Uruguay lined up for August 12, which is expected to be played on the newly renovated 5th of July stadium in Algiers.
Football Federation members are already making efforts to ensure that the public is aware that further incidents involving flares could be costly for the national side, which just jumped 19 places in FIFA’s rankings to break into the top 50 and become the seventh best ranked team in Africa.
